update

built the bottoms.all old wood.
i plan to caulk all the corners so if theres a spill it will keep it inside or slow it down.

got 2 people plus me and got the 2x2's out from under the tank.
that was tuff when you cant put your fingers under the tank.
1/2" glass 240 is no joke :D
we bear hugged the ends while someone swapped the 2x2's for styro.
the styro is loose in the middle tho. :irked:
my dad said let it set a few days it might go down.
i think fill it and that will flatten it but he said that might not be good.

also added some old peg board on the back.
only had a little so i had to piece 2 together to make one side. :irked:
filter will hide it or the outside wood sure will hide it. :D

found out my grandpa made it like 30 years ago.
really cool diy uv. :)
http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107220

also put a lil midnight twist on the pre filter :naughty:
the 2 bags will have carbon once i buy it.lol
for the ones that dont see what i did,
i put the box around the outlet so i could fill it with bio balls.
wasnt like that when i got it.

also put the rest of the media in.
oh and do ya think my cat likes the heat coming out of the lights?
she has slept on that tank ever since i brought it home.

update
half the beast of a filter is in. :grinno:
its like my grandpa made it for under the tank it fit so good :grinno:
"some might have missed it but this filter was outside at the previous owners so it didnt matter how big it was."
sucks i gotta cut down the bio ball holder a ton to get it in there.
the bio ball holder is going from 22" tall to about 8-10" :irked:
if its 18x18x8= its about 11g
is 11g of bio balls good?
it has to be,no room, but i might be able to do something if thats not enough. :grinno:
plus i added a bunch of bio balls to the side filter. "seen in previous post"

also added some 2x4 to the stand.first start to the "skin"
hard to explain but.....
built it out so i could put a 1x8 or something on the face.
then the 1x8 will go above the plywood rim and another piece of wood will go from the 1x8 to the tank.
if you dont get it,when i can buy the wood you will see.
:D
"ignore the piece of trim in front of the tank"

also,in the end,the front skin will be removable so i can remove the filter if needed.
but you will never be able to tell by looking :naughty:

also put some 1" alum angle on the filter corners like the tank has.
more strength,matches tank,protects corners.
used silicone to attach them.
:)
sorry for that book
pics like always

i posted this in another thread but figured i would post it here to for the ones that will miss the other thread and are following this one. ;)

so heres the background that came with tank.
"theres another pic of it on the first page of my 240 project"
its 8x2 made of 1x4 and paneling.
its a 3d painting.
the wood,shells,netting is all real.
its really cool but an aro and saltwater backing doesnt mix.
im thinkin maybe make an amazon backing like this. :naughty:

dude that background is kewl
at the very least put it up and say it's rustic art
kinda like using beer cans to make wind chimes type of thing lol
