Actually," Black bass" is an old name used for the largemouth bass. Only the real old timers use that name any more.

No, it's still valid but it's not used for LMB specifically. It's the common name for the genus Micropterus. So all members of this genus are technically black bass, that includes the smallmouth, spotted and other genus members.

Naw, look at the markings. The markings are more like that of a largemouth and personally, I think that's what it is. Of all the black basses only the largemouth and smallmouth live in Conneticut (I assume that's where she got it).

i would have to disagree, the color is not right for a small mouth, i think it is a spotted bass.
