wow this is frusterating... I went to the hardware store to get pvc fitting for a bulkhead and a standpipe for my overflow and I also picked up a hole cutter drillbit so I could cut holes in the top of the stand for the overflow. We only got the round part of the hole cutter not the drill bit insert cuz we thought we had the right kind....we didnt
, so we go back to the hardware store and get a new drillbit insert we come home and guess wat? I doenst fit So we go back to the hardware store for a 3rd time within an hour and return all everthing we previously bought and got a comple hole cutter. Problem solved rite...WRONG we cut the holes in the top of the stand, and wat do you know, you can see about 1/2 of a 2x4 for the top....this was the case for both holes..... So we get the jigsaw and jig the part of the overlapping 2x4 off, easy fix that time. Then we go to put the bulkhead and the stand pipe in and it dosent f-ing fit...WTF . Turns out we measured rite and everything but the holes in the bottem of the tank for the overflows are 1-3/4 so I got a 1-3/4 male/female adapters to fit together to fit the hole...well they were too big 
. Well we didnt feel like going back to the hardware store so we called it quits for the day. All the mistakes we made were dumbass nub mistakes
Overall my day with my aquarium went like this....

happens i get really frustrated especially with power tools, but when im doing stuff right i love working with wood. but i was putting up speed bag the other day and i was so pissed lol because i couldnt hold it by myself
i think each and every fish keeper goes to this dilema when it comes to plumbing the system. except for HOB and Canister filters though.
