BenSow - As was said earlier in this thread: chill. The OP does need to stop adding fish to the tank and be responsible in finding good homes for the fish he already has. This has been said before in a much more mature, much better way than you've ever aspired to.

He's also been told why what he has now is unhealthy for his fish. That doesn't change the fact that he's in the situation he's in now. It's up to him to re-home them properly. What do you want him to do? Have a fish fry and invite the neighbors? No, you want him to responsibly sell/give his fish to a local lfs, or post in craigslist and find a good home for them. THAT TAKES TIME! For now, he's doing the best he can, providing a cleaner home for them than the pics in your tank setup and trying to keep them as healthy as he can in the confined space he has. Yes, keeping them there will kill them, or cause them many, many medical problems regardless of how clean he keeps it, but being irresponsible at this point and simply dumping them into a canal or something would be far, far worse...for both his fish and the rest of the ecosystem.

screaming at him isn't going to help. Education, answers, and advice will. It's obvious he cares for his fish; it's now a matter of showing him that the best way he can care for them is to find them a new home, then re-stocking his tank with fish that can live there happily and healthily for life.

ok, got it sorry man im just 14.. well turning 15 this december... My attitude is this way sorry to say.. Thanks for telling me anyway...

Walmart sells "freshwater" puffers and gobies so it doesn't mean they are. I know a pet store that believed you can keep parrots fish in 5 gallon tanks, doesn't mean you should.

They may live in your freshwater tank but they prefer brackish water.

Technically you can put keep parrot fish in 5 gallon tanks.. Just put the fish in a 5 gallon tank and your done... But the problem is that the fish wont live long... :grinno:

The kid already has his hands full. Let him fix the situation. Its too bad his parents wont let him get more or bigger tanks. Thats life. But because he has all these fish it does not mean hes obligated to keep them all. Hes got a 55 gallon, he has to house what fish are suitable for that size. And its pretty stupid for people to keep suggesting him fish that will overstock his tank. You are encouraging poor fish keeping. Let him keep his JD and thats it. If he wants other/more fish, then he needs to get rid of every fish in this tank and start over. Then he should be suggested fish that are suitable for a 55 gallon. Do not tell him to get 3 datniodes, that he can keep for a little while. REMEMBER, HES GOT A 55 GALLON AND CAN'T UPGRADE!!!

This thread is a perfect example of what this site has become. Ive been in the hobby for 16 years now...more than half of my life, but I was never a freshwater/"monster" fish keeper until last year when I got my 125 SA setup. When I started I had NO clue what I was doing and I STILL learn new stuff every single day. Ive been a member here for a year but have been a guest for another year or 2 on top of that. More and more lately I see kids coming in here and acting like they know it all. I look at some of the main aggressors in this thread and they are 14 or 15 years old..........arrogant kids are taking over. How about helping snook first and foremost before you criticize. I was lucky enough to get into saltwater keeping at a VERY young age...but without this site and others I would be lost with my freshwater cichlids setup. Now more and more I just see kids who act like they know it all and criticize before helping out. Its getting overwhelming

snook youve had some great info from some on here...dont let people get to you

True but its not always a longterm situation, they fish usually get bought.

i was talking about fish at the store chrisplosion, i meant someone going in and saying "hey what all can i put in my 55 gallon" and them overstocking it to make more money off of the poor sap.

glad to hear that you are gonna make some changes to your stock snook, its what is best for your fish. i know most of them have apologized themselves and i give them props for that. but im personally sorry for the way you was treated. they just mean well for the fish. but still its not an excuse. its crazy how some people lash out without giving the person a chance to make something right. give him advice and encourage proper care for the animals. if you saw a guy walking thru a pet store or anywhere for that matter with a MFK shirt on, im sure you would greet him eagerly as a friend and fellow fish keeper. how come our fellow members cant get the same respect in our home. this site has always been a wonderful thing in my eyes. lets keep it that way.

people are saying that my eel will need brackish water i did some research and this what i found. These Snowflake Eels do better with about 1 Tablespoon of Aquarium Salt per each 5 gallons of water. i already add that to my tank after water changes of more then 50 %. just because you add salt dosnt mean it is brackish. this is a better pic of my eel.

Aquarium salt is way different than marine salt.
