it was a EBJD, a bellycrawler pike and a geo earth earth eater. but the EBJD died and i found out the geo gets to big because the pet store lady lied to me. now i have a pike and a texas but my texas has been out of its hole 2 times and i have 2 pictus

I just read this whole thread so out of curiosity what happened to your eel? I'd say your stock is quite manageable now for a 55 provided your texas or pike aren't too large yet. What sizes are they? How long have you had the texas? He may still be settling in. You can try some dithers to help ease him out more but I can't promise your bellycrawler won't make lunch out of them.

Don't all of those fish get to about a foot, or a little bit over, in size?

If you want a lot of movement in your tank, why don't you make it an mbuna tank? Most max out at around 4"-6". I would say you can keep about 10 in a 55. Some people overstock to reduce aggression, but since you can't commit to many water changes, I'd say don't overstock it.

Mbuna will constantly quarrel and chase each other around. They live amongst the rocks, so just make a bunch of those little rock caves you made. They're also very colorful. The only thing is you also said you want to see fish who eat other fish, and mbuna are plant-matter only. Strictly, otherwise they bloat up and die from the animal protein. Just read the
ingredients on the fish food.

I have to say though... when I was going to school (30 miles away) I had to get up at 5am and didn't get home until around 5pm (IF I left when school ended... if I stayed behind for a project, or a study group, etc, it might be 8:30 until I got home). I still found the time to do weekly 40% water changes on all my tanks. If it takes two people to do water changes with the hose, and you're home alone, or no one wants to help you, then get a five gallon bucket, and run water from the bath, like I do.

You also said you don't consider it animal abuse... but it is. I understand you didn't know... I'm not accusing you of abusing your fish on purpose, but it was abuse nonetheless. So please, now that you know about overstocking and stunting and the dangers of high nitrates and why water changes are so important, please don't make the same mistakes of the past. Yes, big fish are cool, but not for a 55. And since you can't upgrade, don't get bigger fish... just wait until you can get a bigger tank (even if it means waiting until you move out and live on your own).

why are people still taking about my tank being over stocked was like 2 months ago i get it get off the subject. yes i still have the eel no one wants it doing fine. the pike is the biggest a 3" and they only get to 6". the Texas will get 12" at the absolute max but prob not and if its female it will only get like 8"

I wasn't talking about your original stock list, but your current one. How big will your pictuses get? I thought I'd offer some friendly advice but your attitude is as bad towards me as it was towards those who were mean to you. That just makes me think you just don't care, or maybe you see fish as inferior and not worthy of proper care.

Don't get yourself all worked up on him, he has that effect one everyone. Just look at the first 100 or so posts on this thread.

Just letting you know that if your Texas reaches a sub-adult size it will probably kill everything else in the tank (if the nitrates don't... and if lack of salt doesn't kill the eel).

I actually read the entire thread, and the whole time I was wondering if I acted the same way back when I was 14.
