i have read the first 12 pages but then gave up.

i kow how hard it is to part with fish.

when i lived at home with my mum and dad my dad like my tanks and i had 4 running in my room. 1 on the landing and 1 in the living room. but when i moved out i didnt have the tank and was forced to sell 3 of the tanks. i eventually sold a 4th oe and used the money to buy a 4ft tank for my new house.

it can be hard to sell the fish you have looked after for so long but in the end it all works out. im now really happy with my community tank and still have the memories of my old tanks

sell the fish you have now and get some Salvini and if you like the eel that one i dont believe its good to have it in fresh water so you should get a fire eel or a poly

After skimming the entire thread (can't even believe it got this big) I'm reminded why I hate kids. I'm not going back through to quote these but seriously?

"not my fault parents won't let me get bigger tank" ? ? ?

"my mom kept fish poorly so I do so it's her fault" ? ? ?

Sounds like a typical child with an excuse blaming their parents for everything. I certainly wasn't surprised when the 14 year old age was brought to light.

There are a million more things I can pull up here and explain the pure ignorance but it would not hit home at all in this situation with what we're dealing with. Large fish keeping is certainly not a child's hobby or past time. It takes a lot of money, time, patients, discipline, knowledge, etc. Go get a goldfish. That's a fish right up your alley.

This is why parents don't let their children get their own dog or cat. They are young, irresponsible, don't have the stable income to accommodate such a pet, the dicipline or patients, and end up just treating the pet cruel or in inappropriate conditions. I find it in poor taste the parents even allow their 14 year old to have a 55 gallon setup. I find it sad that one of the parents was supposedly a fish keeper in the past but it's certainly obvious why they're not anymore. Sad...

And on a last note, that poor eel... *sigh*

Well said

but i agree with what everyone else is saying, have you seen how big a pacu can get? they look great as juveniles in the store, but they GIGANTIC and the cat fish will more then likey outgrow the tank, and the gar would probably enjoy more room also, listen to the expireanced members of this community, they speak the truth and it may not be what you wanna hear, but they know what they are talking about and simply want whats best for your fish and to keep the hobby alive with good fish keepers..
