this gets into semantics of common names, but pike-characins include all members of the family Ctenoluciidae, which includes the stupid common names of "rocket gars, slant-nosed gars, marble-line gars, marbled gars, etc".

needlefish are members of a different family (just one species really in freshwater in the trade, Xenentodon cancila).

bottom line is that pike-characins are pretty variable in pattern and coloration depending on species, but the general morphology of the body is conserved--

Thanks alot Kev and the rest of you guys,i learned something new,i just got into Gars,i own 2 9-10" spoted Gars and 2 needlnoses,the 1 i have owned for awhile looks nothing like this new guy.But i appreciate all the help,hope you guys dont think i ask to many questions.:headbang2
