to be honest, those pic's are great! but i hate drag boat's and i dont care if your doing research or not i know all those fish dont survive! what your doing is wrong and deep down you know it! i would love to sink that boat and all other net boat's the same. what ur doing is destroying the fish population in mass number's!!! be aware that maybe one day we might not have meat to eat and feed our family's but might have to resort to fishing as a last chance to survive and becuz people like you kill thousand's of fish a day ur kid'sand grandkid's ans so on may go hungry just so you can make a quick buck!!!

such a shame some off those ive never seen before what the hell is the fish 3rd from the bottom?
It is a Lancetfish

The depth is normally 29 fathoms to over 300 fathoms depending on the target species

That's a lancetfish. From the looks of it, it was already dead or dying when it was netted. The have a gorgeous deep blue, sail-like dorsal fin when alive and an almost reflective silver body. One of my favorite mid-water fish.

Interesting catches. What was that stocky shark in the second post? I've seen a lot of these species live at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, very cool fish. Gotta love the west coast shoreline, beautiful.

I always like to hear what people think. Personally, I don't like the trawlers either, I prefer the long liners as they can better target the species they are after. And you are right most of the fish do not survive on the trawlers. I am a government employee and my job is to collect data so that the fish stocks can be managed so that they are there for generation to come. The Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska have the best managed fish stocks in the fishing industry. There are areas set aside where fishing is not allowed to preserve the natural habitat and protect the dense areas of corals, kind of like our national and state parks protecting the flora and fauna in a sea of farms and growing cities. Deep down I feel what I am doing is right because the information I collect helps to manage the fishing stocks, keeps the fishermen from wasting more of their catch and fishing in areas that are protected. You are also right the vessels are destroying the fish populations by the thousands daily but because people like me are on the vessels most of that is ending up in the food industry rather then getting discarded back into the sea even the species where it barely pays to keep them.
