They are all excichlasoma according to cichlidae, which I consider the most dependable source on that type of information.

I am a scientist, not an ichthyologist, but in a biological field nonetheless.

Differences and relatedness among species interests me. But mainly I just like cool CA cichlids that can't be found just anywhere.

keep us updated on this. there are so many on-going revisions that the dust wont settle anytime soon.
i wouldnt be surprised if each of them ended up in their own genus...
 
No fair your Istlanum has like firey red fins. Mine just has basically Jack Dempsey fins. although mine is 7-8" and a full mature color. LOL Beani lookin good Ewok, Mine are lookin like yours only I am getting green eye spots on the scales. Yours seem to be a redish color.
 
what kind of fish is that in the left hand side of the first 2 pics? some kind of cat?...never seen that before I dont believe. I like him/her!

red tailed garra from southeast / south asia

my beani is only 'reddish' from the incandescent light bulb lol... it's pretty much like the other ones i have... greenish in color over a slightly olive looking body

the istlanum looks pretty cool huh? hehe... i hope his fins stay this way!
