After my 29 gallon finishes cycling I am removing my convict from my 75. That will leave me with a FM and a GT in there. I want to add a pictus cat, and then a another CA/SA cichlid. Will a pictus cat do well with my GT & FM and if so what other cichlid would go well with that stock?

Pictus cats should be fine with FM and GT, I have two in with a Jag and two Oscars and there is no trouble apart from the odd bit of chasing. Just watch the barbs on the Pictus' fins, if he gets stuck when you net him just cut away the net and the net will come off in an hour or so. Try and catch them in a tub if possible.

are u going to upgrade soon because a GT is going to get 10". The firemouth is fine for that size of a tank.

yeah pictus should be able to hold their own as long as they aren't too much smaller, i have a grown pictus in my tank now with no problems but when i tried adding 2 more smaller ones they picked on them and bullied them killing one and making me move the other one into a smaller grow out tank, so im not going to put him (or the new one i purchased) back in until they has grown a bit. as for other cichlids to add, in that size tank i would only go with maybe one more med sized cichlid like a carpintis, severum or something else along those lines of size and aggression

Loves Severums why would he need to upgrade? a 75g is 18in wide so is plenty big enough for a 10in fish

sorry i thought he was talking about his 29gal.

I keep 3 picus cats with my larger cichlids they are perfect tank mates for cichlids. It's funny my cats will follow the cichlids around at feeding time if they have food that's too big. I find the pictus cats bother the cichlids more then the cichlids bother them when it comes to food.

It's a great mix but you should get 3 or more. 2 will fight all the time. One will be lonely. They are more fun to watch when you keep a few together. Mine crack me up the way they play and push eachother around.

snowflake311 is right. mine did fight over food but other than that they where always together. since you currently only have 29 gallons though you might want to just get 2-3.

Since everyone is confused about my tank size I will clear it up.

10 gal - 3 guppies & 5 ghost shrimp

29 gal - 1 female convict (tank is completely cycled now, been doing water tests for the last week, ammonia spike has come and gone and the nitrite levels are low enough that they don't show up on the test)

55 gal - 1 female jack dempsey

75 gal - 1 male GT, 1 male FM, 1 Green Severum (just picked up today) The pictus is not in my tank yet, I was also thinking about adding a couple of silver dollars but not sure if that would ovestock my tank or create too much bioload.

I hope that clears everything up. :D
