I'm cycling a 135G tank, it's been a week with no progress. 1.0ppm Ammonia, 0 nitrite, 5ppm nitrate, used Tetra SafeStart. pH 7.8. I can't stand these little orange comets anymore, so I want to add some fish. Hardy, and common. I'm really think that the cycling is gonna be really long, slow, and uneventful at this point and I can get away with some slow stocking now before the cycle finishes. Would Pictus catfish be a good candidate for this?

no fish would be a good candidate for this, but you sound as if you're going to do it regardless. So just pick a hardy fish..

Please, do not intentionally torture any fish and use the waiting to work on patience. My opinion, is all. Or, at least learn to use Ammo-Lock if you have not yet. Still, this I'd avoid too. Cycling takes from 3 weeks (with good seeding etc.) up to 6 weeks and that's that.

Just get some pure ammonia to dose the tank instead of using fish to cycle. Only bad things happen fast in this hobby. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Pictus cats are very sensitive to ammonia not a good choice ... not that there is a good choice. There are many other ways to cycle your tank. If you going to use fish I would use some feeder gold fish and remove them once your tank is stable.

Pictus cats would not be a good choice for this at all. Being scaleless and susceptible to ick on top of that, I wouldn't recommend them.

Just drop some raw shrimp in there and let the cycle do its thing.

Right. Pure ammonia from the Cleaning Supplies section in Walmart or throw in some fish food, dry or frozen.

That's what I did. I got 20 "little orange comets", been in there a week.
