just because man used to fish a long time ago to survive? umm okay. fishing is PURELY a sport for enjoyment. nobody needs to fish to survive. piercing a fish is done for enjoyment. i see no difference

j, i agree with u most of the time. but this statement is very wrong. There are people that have to fish to survive. I grew up the first few years of my life very poor. If it wasnt for my dad hunting and fishing(and being damn good at it) as well as our garden, we would have starved to death.

Now, im not sure why people are so worked up about it. The fish dont even notice it after its done. Not my cup of tea, but nothing really wrong with it.

yeah i cleared that up a few posts ago. i guess i should have clarified :) it's obvious there are some parts of the world where people fish in order to survive. but let's face it, due to their circumstances, these people are NOT the ones who will be keeping an aquarium in their home with fish for their enjoyment; that is the least of their concerns.

i was referring to other folks, like people on this forum who fish purely for sport and enjoyment. these people have no need to fish in order to survive. that is what i was getting at. and that ties in with the point i was trying to make; that fishing for sport/enjoyment is no different than piercing a fish for enjoyment. the fish suffers that same level of pain and stress, perhaps even moreso when fished out it's home water. an aquarium fish lives in a plush glass box where he has no worries :)

oh ok. yeah ur right. thats why i like to catch the fish then put it in its plush glass box. lol

again, what is so natural about healing from a wound that was caused unnaturally?

i know what this thread is about and what it's not. and i'm merely point out how hypocritical all you people are. that is all

The imune system of the animal in question, coupled with natural selection!

This is really a debate of whether fish feel pain or not..... The reason why many people think they don't is that they don't express pain the way humans or many other animals do. They don't scream, and they can't try to run away.

But how do we know if they do feel pain? We can't be sure, as we can't ask them, and there are scientists who believe they don't:
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/02/10/1044725683181.html?oneclick=true

However, others disagree, saying that fish do feel pain, and that seems to be the more widely accepted and more believable theory right now:
http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe/04/30/fish.fear/
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/2983045.stm

From the second article:
"The trout injected with the acid were also observed to rub their lips onto the gravel in their tank and on the tank walls. These do not appear to be reflex responses."

It's also interesting to see who paid for which study, by the way :-)

Pain or no pain its still just a peircing. I have my ears gauged... no big deal. I think it really just shows how pathetic some people are, and how much useless time they have on their hands. They probably have 10 different colored gravels as well. Just a different breed of fish keepers. Just like we have dominatrix people cutting sexual organs off. Call it what you will there are worse things in the world. I don't think getting hung up for the day over a fish getting a lip peircing is that big of a deal when as we speak, oh there went 3 fish on some hook. Not to mention i swear ive caught the same dam fish like 10 times!

second the part on the same fish like 10 times on a single fishing trip. of course i did that one day finally thought it was the same fish biting the hook and instead of reeled in a 19 3/4 inch rainbow trout. BIG boy :)

Well..I dont know if a hook through a fish's mouth is any more or less painful to the fish than a small hoop but this foolishness with the pierced lips and all is just stupid.Something else for the,'Hey look what I have' crowd.

True, just another idiot looking for attention. Theres plenty of those on this forum and other places. The extent is where we draw the line of character, sanity, and other conclusions to the person. ( look at my JDM tank oohh aahhh!)
