Pigeon blood red oscars!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I’m not saying that there’s not someone calling them a pigeon blood oscar.
I’m saying that it’s probably just a name that the seller is placing on an Oscar that has already existed just under a different name.

My guess is they are renaming a Red Oscar.

But, there’s new things found and developed every day.
Kinda like how some advertise a red tiger Oscar as a anaconda or how sometimes a red Oscar will be labeled as a sunburst. Just different fancy names for a normal color/pattern that we're all used to. Granted lemon Oscars are different from a regular Oscar in just the fact that the red/orange is replaced with a yellow/gold. Blue berry Oscars only get their name for being dyed blue/grey and will eventually fade out, they also tend to look ugly compaired to regular Oscars. Always wanted a blue berry untill I found out their all dyed that color, would be nice if someone was able to line breed some into existence without the need for eyes tho.

But then again it could also be a patterning from a species that looks like an oscar with the same morphs but who knows right???

As far as ik there are only 3 species of wild type Oscars. Astronotus ocelattus, Astronotus orbiculatus, Astronotus orbicularis. I believe it's the ocelattus that's all over in the hobby, orbicularis is pretty hard to come across for a reasonable price (often called dwarf Oscars). Only reason they get called that's is they tend to Max out at around 10-12in compared to a ocelattus getting to 18-20in. Pretty well all the Oscars we have commonly all come from selective breeding of the ocelattus specie.

No yeah but most probably somebody may have bred one and a hybrid between the species of oscars

Well I went to lfs and they wasn’t anything special! They were basically albino red oscars! I would describe them as peachy coloured! Probably would look better when they get big!

Those are exclusive "Peach" oscars . I'm waiting on a shipment of "Mint" mollies and "Tropical" T-Bars. "Oreo" Oscars (half black/white) coming soon. I'll be first in line to get one!

I have heard of 'super red' Oscars that are completely solid red including fins. Then there's the "Chili Pepper" Oscars bred overseas that are red with white heads. Sometimes the white is spread over the back.

Chili Reds...

Super Reds below

Good slide show showing all the oscar morphs!

Go to slide #14 for the Super Reds. https://www.slideshare.net/douglashanley/oscar-species-and-variations
