Pike advice

Interesting. Will take a look. I found looked at the "favorite saxatilis" sticky and found a list of "saxatilis pikes". Any of those I should avoid?

As long as in the saxitilas group and not misidentified for a lugubris then wouldn’t worry.

Kari Malone’s monsters gets saxatilis in on Saturday. Menesezi are nice. Smaller growing likes in the saxatilis complex.

My bellycrawler was pretty peaceful yet very confident. If another fish instigated something it would stand up for himself but never instigated anything, if a pair of other fish were getting too rowdy he’d swim up in them like he was the law and break it up. All around rewarding and easy fish to keep, their only flaw is that they’re not as good looking as most other pikes but they still have a subtle beauty to them.

Thanks. I'd prefer a saxatillis or sveni but having a hard time tracking one down for a reasonable price. Malone's Monsters apparently did not get any in this weekend nor do they have any other fish i'm interested in. That pet place has some saxatillis in but also no other fish I'm looking for so it's hard to justify dropping 50-60 bucks on a 15$ fish. Will keep looking though. Thanks for the help everyone.

I have not found belly-crawlers to be overly aggressive (except with their own kind), mine were kept in Milwaukee 7.8 pH, 250 ppm hardness, alkaline water.
I've also kept Uruguayan Saxatillis in cool water communities.

beautiful. Thank you duanes duanes

I would eventually like to keep these with guianacaras so it's encouraging to see your pics. Do you think the saxatillis and guianacara sp. are temp compatible?

There are saxatillus group variants from all over South America, for Guianacara the northern variant would probably be the ticket, because like Guianacara they would prefer warmer temps.
The Uruguayan Crenicichla I had, seemed to do best with a winter cool down, in winter I put them in an unheated basement where water temps, hit 50"F (10'C) where I overwintered koi, and other Uruguayans in a kiddy pool.
