how were their breeding colors? any pics?

The Pikes spawned in Florida! Breeding colors were slightly more intense than their tankmates in the 55G. We have the parents now, here in Colorado. About the end of June we're expecting the remaining batch of fry. All siblings have gone to a few lucky homes!

That is fantastic news! good to hear that the next generation have been spread around.

Yes indeed!!! Several people have some of the fry....
We finally get some ourselves next week, I'm dying to post some pics of these F2 Pikes! never did get any of the newborn 'free-swimming' group. Twill be interesting to grow-out these guys, who else has second generation lugubris group? (other than Zingu 1) . . . . . .........

I think they will still be F1 Jon, since they are a first spawn of F0 parents right? That makes them even cooler!!! Definitely hope they have a higher resistance to HITH!

Hey RAY - The Atabapo II pair (only about 8") spawned in a 55G. holding tank with 11 other similar pikes. Part of a newly imported group, they took over one end of the tank that had a flower pot (on it's side in a saucer). After littlt more than 3 weeks the eggs were laid on the inside top surface of the pot, emulating pike eggs stuck to the top of spawning caves in the wild.

A possible trigger could be the 'group' scenario. Dr. Leibel's marmorata pair spawned in a 75G. tank @ 8" size, maybe young adulthood is a factor. We hope you get 'it' one day Ray, it's just a matter of time until more Pike spawns are happening.

Seiichi ~ any info on your friends' tank set-up, conditions, etc. for their Atabapo spawns???
Very sorry I forgot to reply.
there is an article of atabapo breeding on Japanese magazine.
I will show you later:)
impotant point is that female spawned in the pot as well.
I acutually saw this pair. They are not small ones.

OOPS - what was I thinking!???? of course F1 from wild-caught parents!
the Mom & Dad are doing well as a pair in their own tank, no sign of the dreaded HITH. maybe these fry will be hardier tank-raised.....

Interesting about the flower pot Seiichi - we'd love to learn about your friend's spawn, maybe to inspire someone to have more success breeding lugubris pikes.
THx for reply-
