pirahna with cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Man i got to say you are taking a risk no matter what you put in your piranha tank. You have to remember that these fish in a closed environment will do anything to prove why they have adapted to the way they are over millions of years. . . predatory eating machines. they clean up the sick, weak and the dead in the wild, even eachother! So i'm going to tell you the same thing that i have told many many other people on here . . .at some point or another, they will become a meal. The piranha will pick em' apart. Sure they might last a bit in your tank but they wiill look like hell. Their fins will be missing along with small chunks of flesh, after a while of be picked on and picked on they get all stressed out and hide in a corner preying they don't get eaten. Another thing to remember... fish give off therimones (sorry i don't know how to spell) but anyway they are healthy or un-healthy chemicals that the fish put out into the water if you will which tells other fish how healthy or stressed they are and if your piranha get wind that there is a sick or weak fish in your tank well hell they will pick on it until it dies or gets eaten. good luck but i don't see any good out of putting a chlid in with your p's unless it's ten times the size and won't eat them whole!

I have kept 4 red bellies 2 oscars and 2 dempseys together ofr a long period of time. But I started them all out together as babies and I also fed them twice a day. There wew occasional biten fins but it worked out. The only thing you can do is take a chance either it works or not . Its like putting a bunch of dogs together it might work out it might be a disaster

once again heres my repetion of opinion but i wouldnt put anything in a tank with P's unless you are willing to lose them eventually.

Agreed, I am not tryin to sound like a tree hugger, but this would be bordering on animal cruelty IMO

i think itll work being that the piranha will be the new comer to the tank, just make it to where the piranha is just a bit smaller than the cichlids but still has a chance to keep the other fish from just killing it

in one of the rbp~mouse feeding videos out there - a large oscar joins in on the feeding.

don't know if i'd risk it.

Cichlids like to lip-lock + Piranhas have large very sharp teeth = Cichlids with no lips

can a responsible monster fish keeper keep pirahna with cichlids, or is this a big no no. I have a 180 w/ a jaguar, red devil, flowerhorn, and convict pair. Is this a recipe for disaster, or can these fish coexist.

While I'll agree with the others... If you have an established tank with jag, rd, flowerhorn etc who already are comfortable with their territory with good size on them forget about the piranhas lasting very long..

piranhas don't lip lock, there fore this really wouldn't happen. You'd have beaten piranhas as lip locking is an agression action.. piranhas aren't agressive until hungry and usually attack from the rear. If this happened you'd have a severely beatup piranha if all is equal.
