Piraiba pictures

the fish in the picture is believe to be b. caprepretum, I saw many of them in Peru, they actually get pretty big too, and is the same fish as excotifishguy's fish. The fish pictured in the first page actually has a bit of a bent nose, not so much seen on exoticfishguy's.
 
what is believed is that the true paraiba is only from a few places, and they're pretty hard to get, out of Brazil and Peru, both are illegal to export., and I saw with my own eyes when they get them, they are only about 0.5-1" in size, at that size very hard to tell one apart from another, as catfishracer and most Japanese importers will agree, that b. caprepretum will have whiskers about 2-3 times the lenght of the body at that size, and true filamentosum will have whiskers over 5-6 times the length of the body. we actually see very few true filamentosum imported into the US. All the ones that come from Peru, they call it Salton catfish, which actually represents caprepretum and probably another specie which gets even larger, but still not the filamentosum. and this name is used really for all of these types of cats exported. I'll see if I can find and post some pictures of the real filamentosum. Catfishracer posted a good example of small filamentosum, see how long the whiskers are

These comparable photos do not look like my fish as a 2" juvie the car. clearly has a different mouth, darker color and different whiskers. I will search my old computer to try and find juvie 2"-4" pictures not making any promises but ill do some searching so we can all have clarification. So far none of the photos that are attempting to prove this fish is not a true piraiba and justifying the difference. I have owned this fish since 2"-2.5" and have done countless hours of comparing, researching, watching videos and looking at photos. They are two clearly different looking fish. If someone has a comparable sized cap. that they can take photos of lower jawlines, mouth and other detailed photos please post side by side with my fish. But nothing is convincing me that this fish is any other species than a filamentosum.

You are right. The fish in the pictures above are different than your fish. Those are the true filamentosum. And I have pictures of intermediate size and larger ones too. Ill post later

The 2 small juvie photos are identical to what my fish looked like when I had received it. Barbels were longer than its body and was silver with dark grey dots identical to those you had posted of the small juvies. I was referring to the photo of the cap that is 14" in size and clearly a different species than my fish.
