Piraibia Catfish?

Throughout the capa vs fila ID debates, it's been mentioned that filas grow incomparably faster, reaching 2' in year 1, 4' in year 2 or some such numbers. I haven't a clue if this is indeed so.

Can anyone confirm or dispel with evidence?

I think that info originated from wes and a few of the overseas members as for the legitimacy of the claims with my fish actually seems to be on about the right pace

also with most fish growth. When I shipped Cgibby the fish, he had been in transit from Brazil to Japan to Taiwan, and back to the US, so he's traveled a few thousand miles already, putting him under some stress which would slow down its growth. Once they're on a regular feeding pattern, they would and could grow much faster, but its not necessarily what you want right? Just like red tail catfish that can reach 30" in a year, but in reality you don't want them to grow that fast. I've read reports, people who do scheduled regular feedings, 2 or 3 times a day, grow much faster, than random feedings here and there.
 
ECZS does have piraiba....aka brachyplatystoma filamentosum .They are not 1-3k but 75-$150. I had 4 at one time and a few members here and on the other site had them as well.

If I'm correct the one with the silver iridescence is b. rousexauii or however you spell it. I've been out of the fishkeeping thing for a while now
 
I've owned wels catfish and would say the piraiba grows faster.......they also jump too so please make sure your lid is tight.

True piraiba have the iridescence as well. The ones that sell for less than $200 are B. capapretum, not filamentosum. Caps are still routinely referred to as filas.

Define "much faster" a bit, please, if you will? Maybe with a few exemplary cases? Or an easy way out - a link?
