Piranah with bichirs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a dinosaur bichir in my 150 with a large pleco and 3 elongatus piranha. I plan on adding some danios and tiger barbs. I just always keep feeders in the tank. They fight with each other every now and then but ignore the bichir. Plants and caves help but it is a risk. Good luck

I will take better pics soon and try to get some pleco shots. They been doing great, but the big one likes to bully the two smaller ones some times. Yesterday was the first day he actually bit one of them but it wasn't anything out of the normal realms of keeping piranha together. I keep pimafix on hand and make sure they stay fed. I used to have a Peru Rhom with Dovii and Mannies. The only Piranha that I owned that refused to play nice was my black xingu. He was a true beast, but very lazy.

The bigger one only started to show aggression when I increased the temp in the tank. He nipped both of their tails, but they usually swim and hunt together. I would prefer for them to stay away from each other, because he is so unpredictable. Once I add the tiger barbs and danios I will give them some entertainment and my tank will be done.

Do you think that it has do with the piranhas' age which is the reason why a birchir is able to coexisted with three piranhas?

They are aggressive, but they have good filteration and water flow. It also helps that they are in a 150 with absolutely no reason to fight over caves, plants, or space. The bottom line is keep them fed, and use dithers to keep them busy. I would never promise anybody my same results, because all fish are different. This may end up being a failed attempt one day or I might make history. I would appreciate any help, tips, or advice from you guys as always. Thanks
