Piranha In 10 Gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Plus, I don't have any extra tanks to put it in at least not in short notice.

dude, the kid is 6. any child that age will think that their pet is happy if it isnt dead or "acting weird" (lying on its side, upside down, etc.).

the simple and best solution is to give the piranha away. remember, piranhas are large schooling fish. a single one wont make it.

though the niece wont be happy about it, its best to give the fish away. also remember that she's a small child and her attention will be fixated on something else the week after you get rid of the piranha.

stuff the kid in a box and tell her this is what the fish feels like

then give the fish away while she is trapped in said box

make sure to poke a few air holes

Personally I would talk to the girls parents and explain to them that the fish will just end up dying in that tank. Maybe suggest they try to find a new home for the fish and then the girl could get a betta/goldfish/guppies? There are plenty of other options and I'm sure your neice would be happy with them. Just explain to her that that kind of fish gets really big and mean and needs a bigger tank to live in.....
good luck.

I would definitely be better to rehome the piranha. After that, get her involved in researching new fish for her tank. Show her why it's good to be responsible and let her enjoy the positive outcome of setting up a successful aquarium. Do it right, and you may make a hobbyist for life! By the way, goldfish and guppies are bad ideas here. Maybe a betta. Possibly neons and pygmy cories. Harlequin rasboras? Maybe a crayfish. There are lots of ideas, but I think you should work together to find the tank's next inhabitants. It'll probably be fun.

Alright, her parents gave it to her.

I will talk to them when I can, and I will take her to a store if a I can and help her pick out a fish.

No boxes for little girls, her daddy can beat me up, and her mommy.
