Hey guys, i'm very new with my red bellied piranha Attila, and I just wanted to know how long it took for them to grow very big. Currently he's almost as tall/long as my hand, but not quite there yet.

I keep him in a 20 gallon tank, but will he still grow? I'd love answers to my questions, thanks in advance guys!

he is not like a goldfish. he will continue to grow regardless of tank size.. a full grown Piranha likes about 25 gallons atleast to him self. so soon i will gettin my guys into a 125 gallon. but it seems a bit cruel to keep him in a small 25.. a 30 would be better for full growth. more space to swim and plus when he gets scared hes got more get away space. otherwise he may run into the glass and hurt himself. just give him lotsa places to hide and good food and he'll be happy as ever!!

Eventually i'll move him when i've got money. But how long does it take for him to grow? Agh i'm so impatient! I wanna see my boy get huge!

Speaking of genders, any way to tell if he's actually male? Hahaha.

A single RBP requires at MINIMUM a 75g tank IMO. They typically grow 7-10" in the first year depending on water conditions, feeding, and basic care. After that they will usually grow around an 1" a year. I would get that red out of that tank ASAP! A 20g is way to small!

growth depends on feeding rate.. he grows more everyday so its hard to say exactly but you should notice a conisderable difference every few months.. but once he gets about 8 inches. growth slows. assuming hes a regular RBP growth should cap out at 12" but i've never seen one bigger than 11" other then government run aqaurium. as for gender identification. i'm no expert there!

you won't be able to tell gender until it lays eggs or you cut it open. The reason that you'll want a bigger tank is because he will get too long to turn around in a 20 gallon (assuming that his growth isn't stunted from the tank size).

He out grew your tank about 3 months ago so I wouldnt get over excited about when he will get bigger. I hate to ask but is your tank cycled?

If he is the size of your hand that would be about 4-6"...so he's way to big for your 20gallon.

Remember that piranha need to have atleast 20-30gallon space to swim, not in 20-30galon. Another world is if you have 180gallon you can fit 8-9 full grow in there because you will have 20-30gallon tank space, no in 20-30gallon tank. The tank demension will stunt your piranha.

So i suggest you move him out from 20gallon before you stunt his grown. Get a 75gallon and 2 get more pygo in there with him.

get a 30 gallon, it will be good to life.
