Piranha tank mates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
as much as i love piranha the reason i got rid of them was to go for arowana and others.
i would not risk keeping them together

Actually many set ups for piranha that I've seen, small barbs make great tank mates as they eat the debris left after piranha feedings and the piranha rarely pay attention to them. Ocassionally if they do turn on them they are cheap to replace.

I think that nice shiny aro would quickly end up as an expensive and messy feeder.

Hey, I'm rather new here but how big were your piranahs? I got one that's about one's palm size (a red belly) and I'm afraid he's going to kill my pleco (which is quite big himself - maybe 4 or 5 inches). And what's the point in keeping a few piranahs if they will eventually snap at each other. I read many poasts where people say that these fish will eventually nip at each other.

I had a tiger oscar in with my 6 red bellies. They were fine for a year and then one day they ripped the oscars eye out. Pretty nasty I ended up giving him to a pet store.

Piranhas are such a boring fish. I've had much more fun keeping different fish.

wow, that would be a zoo quality p exhibit, if anyone could do it, you could. there should be enough space for all, just keep them fed and make sure the others are a lil bigger than p's, why not try it 800 g, how cool is that

My two rbp's never took offense to a few small/medium snails (3-4) and small plecos (1-2) {Plecostomus}.

Oddly enough, my snail inhabitants didn't multiply logarithmically like others have experienced.
