I saw a pirate perch for sale somewhere. It is a small predator fish. It gets about 5 inches and I don’t really know how to keep one so if anyone knows anything about keeping them tell me
I've never heard of it before so I looked it up and found this.
There doesn't seem to be any special husbandry requirements according to what I read of it on Wiki......mostly hangs out near the bottom, eats smaller fish and invertebrates.
They're found as far north as southern Ontario and the Great Lakes, so they can obviously tolerate and probably do better in much cooler water than most typical "tropical" fish species.
Natives. Don't need a heater. Don't get too big. I guess it can eat live anything - mealworms, mosquito larvae, glass shrimp, larvae of any kind. You could probably get it onto frozen bloodworms or frozen shad.
What do you think would be a good tank size. I know they get five inches at max but they stay near the ground and are stationary. Could I be able to keep on in something like a 29 gallon to 40 gallon.
