piraya are killers

I have seen this myself at a friends house, it doesn't matter how much you feed them. If any of them show a hint of weakness, that fish is a good as dead. So, in the there was nothing you could have done to prevent it.

The caribe i removed from the tank was acting weak so i understand why he was attacked , but the one i left in the 300 was healthy as ever, swimming perfectly not a mark on him, and then next day half his body is torn up, i think this was murder..... the piraya knew he was all by himself without his friend so they moved in.

I have also seen piraya act like snake heads, where they kill indiscriminately whether there hungry or not, it's like they enjoy killing things.

thats so crazy, wont be doing another mixed shoal with piraya . i hope the 3 i have left dont kill eachother, i feed them every night now , they chase eachother sometimes but they have a good amount of room to space out from eachother(100gal per fish). piraya are the baddest pygos hands down

With only 3 left, they will kill eachother. You'll find that one day (just like with the caribe), you'll have 2 left and a missing half of fish. Then there will be 1 and a good bit of fish left. This is just the way it is. It was the way it was when I kept my first complete mixing pygo tank 10-11 years ago. It was that way when I had 75 caribe in a 125 (juvies, obviously). This is the way of the Pygocentrus.

you sound like master yoda. please show me the way old wise jedi knight

Well, getting all 4 pygo species prior to that was pretty difficult and commanded 1200+ per piraya. Ternetzi were also fairly uncommon. The first person I knew that had pioneered the hobbyist side of piranha was Jason (can't remember his last name) out of Ohio, and another hobbyist Matt (also from Ohio). Those guys REALLY had collections. I learned a lot from them. Geryi were rare, brandtii were hard to find, etc...

I wonder if anyone remembers Jason or Matt?
