Hi,

I don't know a lot about the different plecos, there are so many of them. I read about a Pitbull pleco, supposed to stay a reasonable size up to about 5 inches. I have a 55 and want a pleco, but don't want a huge one. Are there any other smaller plecos that someone could suggest?

Thanks, in advance for your advice and knowledge

I've been looking at some of these threads and most of them seem to have a number more than a name. I am looking for a small pleco that won't outgrow a 55.

Have you considered bushy nose pleco? They are a smaller variety that would do great in a 55. They come in different color morphs and there are long fin variety as well.

You may have confused a pitbull with a bulldog pleco(rubbernose).

A pitbull (LDA025) pleco maxes out at about 2 inches. Just barely bigger then an otto.

A bulldog gets a little bigger at 3-4 inches and is more commonly seen at fish stores.

For a 55 I would would go a little bigger... such as a bristlenose that gets about 5 inches

The bristle nose sounds all right. I just don't want any more 12 inch monsters tearing up my tank. In a 75, I wouldn't mind using the common pleco. I think I saw a bristlenose pleco when I was getting my starter fish- danios and cories. May go check today on it.
