I was under the impression that leucistic animals were yellowish.

Nevermind. That must have been xanthic I was thinking of. So leucistic is almost albino, but with colored eyes and other tissues being white. Okay. Got it.

Yes, Xantic is a yellow morph

Leucism simply means an animal that has reduced pigmentation…

Technically, all Albinos are Leucistic but not all Leucistics are not Albino… the same way all Poodles are Dogs but not all Dogs are Poodles…

Albinos have absolutely no melanin… Leucistics have reduced pigmentation and melanin is one of several forms of pigmentation that may be affected… Leucism can also only affect a portion of the cells resulting in “white spots” or “white areas” of an animal…

I admit I’ve seen many areas that apply this/these terms a little differently, but this is how science defines them…

“Platinum Oscar” is a generic term that has no true definition… yet there are a few forms of fish that could fall under this general description. Some may be a true “morph”, others may be a simple line bred trait, while others may be a temporary stage…

Very well put, thanks for the clarification.

not sure about this one. Sounds like yet another sales gimmick like the lemon oscar, blueberry oscar, etc. From a business standpoint, they need to shake things up a bit to get more interest in their company. I'm a little skeptical about a "platinum oscar"

Neither of those are "sales gimmicks". Lemon oscars are semi-xanthic forms of the normal "albino"/"lutino" form, blueberrys are "albino"/"lutino" oscars dyed blue. A better example of an oscar sales gimmick would be a "fire" or "zebra" oscar.

True "Platinum" (Luecistic) Oscars may exsist, but are EXTREMELY rare.

Uh, ALL albino/lutino oscars currently on the market are leucistic ;) Nothing rare about that.
