planning a tapajos biotope

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So went ahead and added the 5 sultan plecos tonight, and also reintroduced one of my males who I had separated in a hospital tank due to illness. So far so good I guess. The l264's disappeared pretty much instantly. I can only find one and only see the tip of its nose. I expect after a while once they've settled in I'll see them pop up at feeding time like my l91's do. Pretty happy. For the few minutes I could see all the species in the open it all felt pretty natural ish. I really would like to change the light out, it's really too bright for this tank. But it's coming along.

Those geos look nice as ever, I have come to the conclusion I won't accept a tapajos scape without heros sp. tapajos.
I might cave in to this eventually, I worry that my little female c. Regani might get eaten once the severums gets to full size. Thoughts?

Here's a pic of a couple if the l264's hanging out. I've seen then out and about every now and then, although they usually scoot back under something when I get close to the tank.

And here's a real short update video of the full tank. Tried to see one of the plecos in a log but it was too dark for the camera

so this project has changed dramatically. my air pump broke on me a week or two ago so there was no air going in. I did have my wave maker pointed at the top creating a lot of surface area but rearranged some things and decided to move the direction of the wave maker to get some junk that had been collecting in a corner. went to bed, didn't think anything of it. woke up in the morning and went in to check up and turn on the lights. bam. it looked like the apocalypse. dead fish lying everywhere. I literally thought the whole tank had died, at the time thinking some how I'd accidentally poisoned them or an electrical fault or something. as I looked I did find there were some survivors. I didn't lose any of my crenicichla , I did however lose 6 geos, and 2 of my l264. I had heard about things like this from some other fish keepers but hadn't ever had an issue like this until now. I will always keep a working air pump on my tanks from now on for sure

Oh crap, that's awful.

I run a sump now, and one of the nice things about a wet/dry setup is that there is plenty of oxygenation. When I ran a canister some years back, I always positioned the return to agitate the surface of the water.

One of the many benefits of a sump. I would have this hooked up to a sump by now, but I live in an apartment on the 3rd floor, I'm worried enough about the weight of the 125 I don't need another 45 g or something adding to it I'm sure. Plus it's kinda noisy. I really need a basement. But yea it was a bummer for sure. Weird thing is I was thinking about getting rid of, believe it or not, 6 of the Geo's so I could move a different group into this tank and just keep a simplified version of this tank. This isn't how I would have chosen to do it but it's almost a blessing, this group of fish is very chill now. The male and female already spawned yesterday and are guarding eggs.

Awe man I was going to post that your geos look so rad, anyways nice tank. And setup sorry bout your geos
