Sweet!! cant wait for pics :headbang2

Well I've had enough of waiting for things to happen. Between studies, work, money and material supply, this project has suffered from major stagnation. But no longer I say! So I've made a couple of things happen.
I've built a 4' sump, got all the glass ready for the tank, ordered my custom built stand and I've bought the wood. So the gears are in motion.
The wood and stand will be ready for collection on Friday(so they say). So hopefully construction can start sooner rather than later.

Okay, here's a pic of the sump I built. It comprises of 2 units; an upper tray (separate unit that sits loosely on the main sump) and lower (main) sump. The idea behind the upper tray, is to increase the water area exposed to the "atmosphere", thus increasing the oxygen in take if the water. This in turn will aid biological filtration in the lower sump and make for happy fish. Or so I hope.

If you look at the pic, water will enter the upper tray from the display tank. I will have a very coarse filter pad here. The water then enters the main tray area, where I want to have one layer of bio balls. The water movement SHOULD spin/turn the balls - which will break water surface tension - which will further aid aeration. From here the water overflows into the main sump where it will go through the normal kind of bio media (sponges, scrunchies, ceramic rings and gravel) on its way back to the right hand side. At the very right hand side the return pump will pump the water back to the display tank, where the water will flow into the tank via spraybar.

The main sump holds about 260 litres of water (+- 68 US Gallons) and is about 4.5 ' in length and about 2' wide.

So what do you think?

Looking good, I doubt that any resonable water flow will spin bioballs, they'll just bunch up at one end, but you could set up long water wheels (like bio wheels on HOB's) that would be effective.

Quick update... Mitre cuts. :)
I got the mitre cuts done on the bottom front and back pieces of plywood on Saturday. I couldn't do any more because I kinda got food poisoning from the hotdogs I had for lunch. If I see that hotdog dude again I just might ... :irked:
Anyway. Here's a pic of one of the cuts. Doesn't look like much now... But it should look pretty cool once assembled.

hate to tell you but ur gonna need 15mm glass fer that. ud need 12 if it was 2400(or more)x600x900

why do people bring these things back to life?

Now I have to shoot myself, again...

:P
