figured out around how long my light needs to stay on i am using two t5ho, with excel and nutrient tablets my plants now seem to be flourishing. i get a little bit of algae but i got a pleco to take care of that hopefully he lasts a while. I tried adding MTS but i cant seem to get them to stay alive....i've never heard of anyone having this problem any inputs?

Maybe the tank isn't established enough for the MTS. They eat decaying plant matter and other organic waste. I think they might eat some algae, but you have to supplement them with some food.

You are gonna have alot of problems and waste alot of money by not listening to people in this thread. Too much light without the C02 and nutrients is a definite failure. You need to start out with a low tech tank and understand how the whole concept works. Going blind into this is really foolish. Take your time and figure it all out.

i am not saying im not going to add c02 i am simply saving up for it and using excel until then, i am adding nutrients, and all my plants are low tech. also this had been a established tank with 20 red bellies prior to adding plants. its a grow out tank for baby fish. the mts only last about a day until i start to see empty shells.

Excel ime kills inverts if over dosed.. I switched to reg flourish and since then my inverts have been fine. after losing a colony of cherry shrimp I decided against playing the odds again.

thats because Excel and Flourish are two COMPLETELY different chemicals, they do different things. Excel is organic carbon in liquid form (co2 replacement). Flourish contains trace minerals. youre comparing apples to oranges

Yeah and I made a topic on excel and inverts a little bit ago and everyone said it does NOT kill inverts. I have been dosing it in my tank with snails and shrimp for about 2 weeks and no deaths. There's copper I believe in the ingredients but not the same copper that's toxic to inverts.

Also overdosing excel can kill anything, too much C02 = Chokes them. Don't overdose and you should be fine.
