java fern var windelov is a great plant and contrastsa well with regular java ferns! also cant go rong with anubias nana!

I can think of one thing...easy maintenance. Gravel just traps the detritus making siphoning a PITA. Sand is better but you need to stir it frequently to avoid dead areas.
