Pulled the wigglers from the BGxBG siblings

Not too many white eggs thus far in the BluexGold batch:

Free swimming day for the BG x BG spawn. First feeding of BBS. I can't get a great pic, but even at this stage, it looks like some of the fry might be lighter in color.

Expected I supposed since the grandparents were a EBJD and Gold.

I hope that I might get a various assortment of fry -- Gold, Blues and Platinums. We'll see.

ARGH! the EBJD x Gold ate the fry!!!!!!!!!! Sigh!

I had to separate the gold female, b/c the EBJD male was getting too rough. I'll give her a couple of weeks and reintroduce. I'll probably have to strip the fry the day they hatch!

Well, at least the BG x BG fry seem to be doing well. They are all free swimming now.

Here is an update-pic of fry from the BG x BG pair (who's parents were a Gold Female and a EBJD Male).

You can see light colored fry as well as some normal looking fry. It'll be interesting to see how these grow out. I expect that some will be gold, i'm hoping some will be Blues and praying that some will be platinums. We shall see!

Would agree that it is in the minority :). Hard to know for sure: I get lost when I try to draw out the genetics of what i'm looking for. I'm presuming that the Platinum needs to carry recessive genes for both the Blues and the Golds .. ALL of the genes for color need to be recessive otherwise the fry will look either Blue, Normal or Gold.

One of the areas I struggle with is the Gold Female, which I've named "Solo". "Solo" is the grandmother of the fry with whom I'm currently posting progress pics. I watched that entire spawn of ~1000 fry and 'Solo' was the only one that was Gold. Trying to understand this part messes me up.

Solo's parents are the fish that are at the beginning of this thread.

I believe that the percentage would be 1/16th plat but yes a small number and smaller yet considering they have the blue recessive traits that's makes them more fragile and slower growing. You will have 3/16 gold, 3/16 blue and the rest will look normal. This is all theory and statistics based off from the punit square. One of the reasons I enjoy the recessive genes so much. Anyway, everything is looking great in your tanks! Very excited to see how they turn out.
