In my opinion, the fish lost pigmentation due to it being blind. This is common in fish, I had corydoras with damaged eyes that turned black.

Have to agree on this, saw same type of this fish in south east asia before while i was on trip. there were 6 or 7 of them all are blind, there are white layer in the eyes. all of them have same typical eyes. so i thought its because of the eye.
