Hi again. Kind of a continuation from my last thread.
Anyhow for those who know me and my Tire track Eel-He is finally getting the upgrade he needs so desperately. But before I can do the move,I got a question on sand once again.

It has been brought to my attention that the Black Tahitian moon sand I was going to use for this might not be the best choice cause of some sharp edges

First off-Is this the truth?

Secondly but not lastly is I have been suggested to use a play sand from Home Depot. I have never really ventured into this before. Is their much I really need to know? Besides the basics of a substrate change....

Is their different kinds (not colors)? or only one varient of play sand?

Anyhow this will work for me now...I will most likely have many more questions in upcomming future....

Thanks and appreciate and said info on subject...

I've used 2 types of play sand, both were from Home Depot. 1 was great, didn't even cloud the water. The second was a different story.... My advice is, whatever type you go with, make sure you rinse it thoroughly!

Anymore indepth info on the "other" kind at all man...And rinsing is a must.

Play sand can be very dirty and a mess at times. TMS is very fine I've never known it to be sharp, I use a combination of moon sand, and pool filter sand which is very clean in my tanks.

You have any Eels by chance?

what bottom dwellers do you have if any?

Care to provide a pics of substrate and a bottom dweller by chance?

Sorry if I am over cautious here....My eel is my pride and joy-And at over 3 foot.I can't make a mistake...

I'd have to check the bags, the names of $4 bags of sand don't really stick in my memory.... As for rinsing, it's not always a must. I have 8 tanks, 5 are sand substrate and only 1 I rinsed. But that's just my opinion. I will let you know if I can find the name of that sand.

this is good.

To Op I don't keep eels. I keep cichlids that constantly pick up mouthfuls of sand and blow it all over the tank as it pours out their gills and never had a sand issue. I know a few guys that do keep eels in PFS with no issues. I just offered a suggestion, I have tried playsand in the past and it was messy I didn't like it. The TMS mixed with PFS is what I use in all my tanks.

Well since I have a stock pile of the TMS already-
Do you think in your opinion that I could just use it straight then? I would prefer to keep it to only one kind of sand instead of a mix.....But willing to mix if thats a must.
Also please...Where would I try to find pool filter sand? I have very limited resources up here....
