Thanks for the pics....

I'm not sure on stock that my local water supply has...But if they have enough I will use roughly 120 pounds of TMS and then roughly 280 pounds of PFS to complete my mix. But if not enough on hand of PFS I will have to resort to playsand.

I use pool filter sand for all my eels. I have a zigzag, peacock, and a baby TT. They all love it most of the time I just see a funny little face poking out of the sand till feeding time :]

How long have you had the Eel's in sand?

Do you think there might be a problem with a mix of TMS(120 pounds) to (280 pounds) of PFS?

I've had the peacock and the zigzag for almost 2years together with PFS and there doing great. The TT is in another tank (w/ PFS) I recently got him a couple months ago but hes doing great. None of the eels have ever had any skin irrationals or problems with the sand what so ever. The only thing I could say about mixing the sane is PFS only comes in one color, which is a whitish-tan.

Thanks again for said info...:headbang2

I will make the decision on the mix or not....But nayhow this seems the route I will go.

Play sand is an absolute nightmare. I have a 33 long with sand. The sand destroyed both my filters causing me to have to recycle my tank (with fish in it now). I ended up using hydor sponge filters which still get clogged up with sand on a regular basis. I am now in the process of siphoning out a few LBS of sand each WC until the tank is bare.

wow this thread helped me out, i have been trying to decide what sand to use for my 1`25 cichlid tank, and like the op was worried about my bottom dwellers, 1 ornate and 3 pictus pim catfish, getting irritated skin.

Yeah might be more of a problem for you on the 33 long.
Myself am useing a 30 inch tall tank.So wont have the same issues unless my eel decides to get frisky...But that rarely happens...He is a gently giant. I will also house my bigger clown knife in said tank as well.....

Glad it has helped more than me then......
So are you still undecided or are you going a certain route now? If so which have you choosen?

wow all the haters on the play sand, i love the play sand in 50lb bags from home depot, thats all i use. I never rinse it when i get it, and it doesn't cloud my tank up at all, and its decently heavy, its not as heavy as pfs but i prefer it over the white sand.
