I'd have to check the bags, the names of $4 bags of sand don't really stick in my memory.... As for rinsing, it's not always a must. I have 8 tanks, 5 are sand substrate and only 1 I rinsed. But that's just my opinion. I will let you know if I can find the name of that sand.

That would be appreciated

I think using the TMS by itself is fine. PFS is sold at pool stores I pay about $9 for 50lbs. I see your in Alaska I don't how big the pool business is up there, but you will have no trouble with the TMS and it looks great. Like I said it is fine so becareful when vacuming it gets sucked up easy if you get too aggressive other wise your good.

arrrrggggg-the decisions.

What about stuff like algea growth on the top of the PFS..is there an issue with that when useing a high powered light setup? is there a genereal overall concern at all with algea growth? cause I take it that this stuff is a lighter color-

I have ran the TMS with my FH and other various cichlids and bottom dwellers and never noticed a problem with it...I love the looks and was hopeing to go this route......But if the PFS will be just as good and not have algea problems...Overall I can get alot more of it than I can the TMS.And I need quite abit to acheive my goal of the sand depth in my tank. The price is of no concern-but the availability is up here...

I have never had an algea issue using it or any other sand PFS is a larger grain than TMS so it does not go up the vac tube. Agatate the sand during wc and you'll be good to go. Use either one or mix them both will do a good job for you it's just a matter of light or dark, that's why I mix. Try 75% TMS and 25% PFS for a really nice look.
