No pics but play sand is my principle substrate. I often use a thin layer of special soil I make up under it for plants but play sand is what I use most by far. I would rather use black sand but it's just too expensive to use very often.

i have black sand now
its sucha pain in the butt
its never clean
and when u clean it it gets dirty all over again

I have not done it, but I know someone who has over 20 tanks and has play sand in the majority of them, also has play sand mixed with other substrates to support live plants. These tanks have been established for a long time, so it seems to be fine.

I have regular play sand, pool filter sand, and 3m colorquartz in all 15 of my tanks, NO GRAVEL! I like the color quartz best but they are all good. You have to rinse all of them thoroughly before dumping them in but pool filter and color quartz is pretty clean out of the bag.

I like my 3M Colorquartz a lot more than I liked Playsand. Playsand is pretty light and can easily jack up a powerfilter.

Used play sand in the 120 with out any problems.

I have used it and the only complaint I have with sand is in my tanks there is to much current so the sand would never settle and ended up in my sump. So I would say, in a low flow tank it is great, in a tank with alot of water movment, not so good.

the tank looks nice but i have like 2 pumps and 2 canister filters on my 55 so my piranhas arent so shy
but my black sand settled
