Play sand

no its brand new. it took me months to eliminate the mites last time i got them and i am worried about getting them again from the sand.
Whoa haven't heard of that before. Did you pre-rinse/wash the sand before you put it in the tank? D'oh sorry didn't notice i'm in reptiles section lol thought it for fish tank.

where did you buy the sand from?
i usually buy mine from the local home depot and i just cut the bag and put it in the enclosure.
you could prerinse it but them you have to let it dry. you could always bake it for 30 mins at like 350 and that will kill anything in it. but i wouldn't really worry about it to much

Yeah I just use playsand directly from the bag. Well I run it through a screen first but that's about it and I've never had any mite problems with it.
Never had any issues with play sand, its already prewashed if youre buying it from home depot or lowes
pool filter sand also works real well. and it ussualy doesnt need much screening, play sand doesnt really either
bought it at lowes and just put it directly into the enclosures. i am a bit of a mite freak since it was so hard to eliminate them last time.
