I just picked up my 150 gal today and I wanna use sand. The sand at petsmart is 20 bucks a bag and I dont wanna spend that much. Could I use playsand?
Yes, but be sure to rinse well before putting in the tank. Around here it is really dirty.BlackKnife86;992163; said:I just picked up my 150 gal today and I wanna use sand. The sand at petsmart is 20 bucks a bag and I dont wanna spend that much. Could I use playsand?

Agreed, but around here it looks "white" in the tank.Dr Joe;992280; said:Pool filter sand takes much less cleaning, usually just a quick rinse...$8.00/50lbs.

Pool filter sand is more fishkeeper friendly.I have to agree 100%. I went and picked up 300 pounds of playsand at home depot thinking I was going to save a ton of money. Spent 2 days washing it in 5 gallon buckets half full. Kept flushing it with water and it never did really get clear. Eventually jumped it all out in the yard and went and bought some at petco. Instead of saving money, I ended up wasteing $30evercl92;992422; said:Tan/brown 'playground' sand around here is filthy.
