Please don't move...snail trouble

I love my little snail fellas too. They always fun to watch move about but when I first got them they were real sensitive and I worried that I killed the littler guy early. He moved in and for about 2 days I never seen him out. The only way to tell he was alive was to find him in the morning. He wasn't moving much so I did research about them and found out they were nocturnal. After two weeks my fish were less interested in him and he became active now the little fella is everywhere even hitching rides on the much larger blue snail. I know on this form my little tank doesn't host an exotic breed just something simple but thought I'd tell you cause I absolute adore my little snails and would be heartbroken to lose one.

he was on top of the castle this morning, but is not moving much now. hes rightside up and was creeping along before but hes not as fast as usual. seriously, he was FAST last week. He's be across the 5 gal in 10 minutes. Maybe aside from last nite hes really just starting to be a snail, idk

he contracted this morning when I un covered the tank (i cover it with a towel so outside movements don't spook them) and he contracted a little and he's on the glass, but he's pretty still. Half of his shell appears to be turning brown:confused:

Guys, I am going to move this now to the Diseases Sub-Forum, leaving a Re-direct reminder in the Lounge,ok?

My instinct is to make a joke along the lines of being ugly and scaring him to death...:D but in reality, snails are very sensitive to water quality. They will be fine at first, but as their tissues begin to store the compounds in the water, the consequenses will become obvious.

Start daily water changes by replacing 10% of the tanks water. Do this for ten days and then cut back to 20% twice a week. Be sure to use a dechlorinating product each time (treat the water before adding it to your tank).

What is your current water change schedule?

I, too, am curious as to your maintenance routine. Are you removing the foods he is not eating? what else is in the tank, do you have a test kit? Some snails that are algae eaters can be difficult to supplement with veggies (some nerite species for instance). Do you have cultured algae to feed him?
