The water change you just did... you didn't use any dechlorinator at all?

Test strips are almost accurate enough to detect ammonia in cat urine. Almost. Its close.

If you use chlorinated water for the water change you need to use dechlorinator. API water conditioner is my first choice, but many many people also like Prime.

Everything you are describing is acute toxicity. This is not an illness and its not osmotic shock. The question is... what is it? Something in your water is killing your fish. The gasping says its getting at your fish through their gills

Did you have any activated charcoal to put in the filters?

Lets dicuss these Jungle tab things... I don't know much about them.
What is your normal dechlorinator, why did you switch to them?
What is the does needed, did you follow it? Do they need to be dissolved before going into the tank or just tossed in?

Could a fish have eaten one?

update: both Peacock bass are doing ok now.

Don't cheer yet.

Sounds like you diluted what ever toxin is in the tank.
Please get up early enough in the morning to do another change before you leave the house.

Agreed , and I might even go as far as doubling up the conditioner and adding some carbon to remove whatever toxic element is distressing them....

ok i went to the pet store and they didnt have any of those test kits left and the only thing you can test your water with was the ph. i bought the ph and tested the water and it was 7.2 and no i dont have carbon in the filter at the moment because like i said i was treating ichs. when i was at the pet store i was debating if i should put in the carbon or not. but im gonna put the carbon in right now.

jungle lab's make tablets to treat all kinds of fish needs from health to water quality

i used TetraAqua AquaSafe Water Conditioner. and i switched because i thought jungle labs water safe tabs were more convenient.

1 tablet for every 10 U.S gallons and you can just toss it in the tank but i always dissolve it in the bucket before i put it in the tank.

Could a fish have eaten one?
no my fish are to small to eat a tablet.

How are the fish this morning?

both Peacock bass died. the rest of the fish are in a bucket. with aa heater and a power head. looked like the fish where sufficating. i going to find a temporary home for them until my tank fully cycles again.

What is in there cycling the tank?

Wait, how do you know its not cycled?

Do you have test results for ammonia and nitrite?

I am really sorry for your loss.

If you have the fish out anyway, I would do a 100% water change with a massive gravel vac.... but them put the sih back in. Your filters are cycled already.
