PLEASE HELP ASAP SAVE THE KOI

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey, I’m kinda late getting here.
How is the koi doing?

Any chance you can get it out of the tank and into a kiddie pool or stock tank? An 18” koi will not do well in a tank that’s only big enough to swim side to side. I recently lost koi fry to being in a 3’ tank that had an ammonia spike. And my spike only hit 1ppm. The stress caused the fish to crash into walls and that ultimately killed them.
An 18” fish can really hurt itself if it were to freak out like mine did

Can I ask why you suspect parasites? Have you seen any? Or were you already treating for them when the spike occurred?
How many other fish are in the tank?

For now, definitely keep changing water to keep ammonia down. Are you using a water conditioner? Something that binds ammonia?
I know it’s stressful when a beloved fish is in distress, but try not to treat for things that aren’t a confirmed problem. You don’t want to stress out an already stressed fish.

Exactly. Sometimes trying to do too much for a fish can be it's downfall in the end. Seen allot of ppl accidentally kill their own fish just by trying to help too much, even I'm guilty of doing so in the past. I find that sometimes doing nothing helps more then trying to do everything if that makes any sense.

18" fish in a 18" wide tank is a crime imo. Thing can't even turn around properly and you are wondering why it's sick? Go pick up a kiddy pool like MrsE88 MrsE88 suggested. You can build a quick easy filter out of a bucket some filter floss and some lava rock and a cheap pump. Get a bottle of bacteria so you can move it ASAP. Other then that is suggest contacting a local rescue or fish store for adoption. You'll kill it in that tank.
Sorry to be blunt but you want asap help so there it is. I just wish I'd seen this sooner.
