PLEASE HELP!!! Geos dying...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The last one is looking slightly better after a half dosage of methylene blue. Do frequent wc's help with this, or should I just let the medication sit in?

It was extremely sad watching the last 2 die, as the alpha male(sick himself) stood watch over them, and chased away any fish that came close. It shows the bond these fish have when their in a group. I raised the smaller ones(6"-7") from 1", and have had the 2 largest from 6"(now 9"-9.5"). They were my favorite of all my fish. My wife doesn't know how I could be so emotional over a fish, and to be honest neither do I. I guess it hurts to lose something you've loved and care for for the past year and a half.

I know how you feel - you care for an animal its whole life and become attached - it is impossible not to get emotional. I treat my fish as though they are a dog or cat or any other living creature in my possession and you are responsible for their well being. I hope for a speedy recovery of all of your remaining fish - sorry to hear about your losses.

Nemesis, I have followed theis thread from it's inception because I,too, have a family of Geo's and I did lose one when I first got him. Suspected he had something from his other home. However, as I follow this I see a turn of events in regards to your diagnosing and medicating. May sound weird, but Ive been prayin' that this situation finds a remedy...and it looks like it may have. keep trudgin' man !!!

Thanks for the support fellas. Thank you everyone for your help.

The med may contribute to its recovery aside from clean water. I'd keep it half dosed for now until fish recovers completely. Frequent water changes always helps a lot. Don't forget to redose the med though. Give it some space.:)

Well, I thought the remaining altifrons was going to pull through, but I woke up this morning to find him turned over. I guess the disease had already done too much damage internally.

Damn Nemesis...I'm soo sorry to hear your lost. These Geos including the last soldier from your Avatar were beautiful. It's amazing how events like this happen out of nowhere, your fish go under and you have no idea why.

Ditto that Nemesis...makes me worried about mine. Are you going to continue to investigate the cause?

You can prove Chilodonella if you have a decent magnifying glass.
This could be another possibility...

Name : Columnaris

Sign of infection :
A white film covers the body, mainly on the head but also on the fins and gills. The body of the fish becomes ulcerated and the fins frayed. In the latter stages of infection parts of the lips and head may become eaten away.

Unfortuantly if this is case, your probably already too late.

Are we sure it wasn't this? Just want to be sure.
