please help i think she is dying

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wouldn't increase the temperature, doing so will reduce dissolved oxygen in the water, which sounds like exactly the thing you don't want right now.

ive also increased the oxygen into the water added another air stone and using the inflow from the filter to create movement on the water surface

Rays create a ton of waste, I would bet that your filter couldn't keep up with the bioload and had a mini cycle. The nitrites might just be going down now that the tank is cycling keep an eye on the nitrates when they go up you will know for sure.

In the future I would always be concerned if a ray is not eating it is likely she went though an ammonia spike before the nitrite spike

Good luck I hope she pulls through

Ive been testing everyday and the water has been fine, i also just took a sample to a different pet shop and they got the same results as me my water is fine, 3 tests all came back with the same results only one got high nitrites so i think that one was wrong, im not sure what to do now tho? any tips on getting her to eat ive tried frozen blood worms and earthworms anything that might get her going? i cant find ghost shrimps around here as ive heard they really like them but anything else that might work hopefully she will be alive tomorrow morning and i will go get some live bloodworms see if that gets her eating i think my challenge now is to get her to eat

Try nightcrawlers... Cut 1 in half and the blood from the nightcrawler my help her to liking it...

AND Do you have sand?? I had sand in my 125gal and my lil motoro couldn't sift through it fast enough so it actually got ammonia, and nitrite gas pockets built up in the sand, every week when i would do a water change the sand i would take out smell HORRIBLE!!! bc it was molding and if i wasnt careful, I would release the gas pockets into the tank, so i ended up taking all the sand out, just did alil at a time on each water change....

Let us know buddy

What kinda ray is it BTW?

i would also suggest buying a good test master kit. i know most of us use API. but they seem to be more accurate.

when you do waterchanges do you treat the water with anything? also the three bloodworms a day thing should have hinted something was wrong and start doing things different sooner. if you can find any black worms then those might get it eating. also are the pelvic bones showing and/or is a dent in the head showing?

also any more info would be helpfull. like is the ray wc or cb, tankmates, wc schedule, and things of that nature.

i use nutrafin liquid test kit, ive also tested my results with those who use API and got the same results, i do a 25% water change weekly (ive had her for a week) i use tap safe to treat the water never had a problem with it so far, i wasnt to concerned that she wasnt eating much as ive only just got her and heard its common for them not to eat so was just offering her different things to try and get her eating, earthworms and bloodworms also im trying to find things like ghost shrimp and night crawlers near me but most of the shops round her dont sell them, yes ive noticed in the last couple of days i can see yer pelvic bones and ive been trying desperately to get her to feed. I do have sand but i know that its not getting to gas pockets as i move it around and so did she until the last couple of days, ive had other tanks go toxic so knew to keep an eye out for that one, ive got an external filter and a internal filter running at the mo she is in a 4ft quarantine tank, she also has an air stone an air bubble and the filter inflow pipe disturbing the water surface creating oxygen in the tank. She is a baby motoro by the way and i really hope she pulls thru i would do anything for her

damn... you got any fish experts/aquariums nearby?... i'm sure a local aquarium would have a specialized vet on hand or someone who knows what they are doing.... i know you can gavage (force feed) them with tubes.... you might need to try this... get a mixture in some sort of turkey baster with a tube and jam it in there then slowly pump it in.... never done this myself thats why i'm talking about you contacting an aquarium... to get her nutrients i would think about this....
