A flowerhorn is one of the most aggressive cichlids there is.(At least from all my reading) Its aggressiveness was actually an unintended down side to the breeding project. They will kill everything once they hit that nice size. Mine won't even tolerate a clown loach or my heater for that matter. Hope this helps. BTW a flowerhorn would destory a Convict in no time once proper sized. Your talking about some real dental work on those guys. P.S here is my low grade ZZ

Depends on what they have been bred with will determine size.

Cons give as good as they get so should be ok.
A breeding pair of Cons can be pretty tough but one on one, a Convict isn't going to hold off the average FH.

It's a beautiful trimac.
You can't reliably call it a Trimac since it wasn't properly labeled and the source of the fish is unknown. It should be considered a FH or some other hybrid. Passing FH as Trimacs is a real problem for people seeking to keep true Trimacs or breed them. It's best to buy from a reputable vendor or member when seeking Trimacs. The OP's fish could still grow to be very beautiful regardless of its heritage.

Agree that 1 on 1 it will be the FH but if its a pair then they can be fairly brutal, and I have seen some individual convicts take out much bigger fish than themselves.

I had the same issue getting true Trimacs in to sell. Always came in as low grade flowerhorns instead.

This is a really nice looking fish.
Can you tell if its a female/male

I have a breeding pair of cons which 8 of the fry have made it they are all around the 1" mark the female of the breeding pair will not let my flowerhorn anywhere near where she settles and will chase it down.

I have another male 3.5" pink con which the flowerhorn will not leave alone and chases that everywhere, is this a sign of the flowerhorn wanting to breed with the male as it will not go near the female con.

Also can anyone tell what mix might be in my fish. Ill try and get some more pics later on if it will stay still for a second.

Its Trimac for sure, mixed with probably a red devil and possibly red terror. See the difference in our fish with normal Flowerhorns is that it does not look like our fish got bred with the parrot cichlid to get that huge hump. So I guess technically there not flowerhorns but merely hybrids.

When I bought it was listed as Trimac/hybrid with the male sign on the tag. So I'm guessing male and he hasn't showed me any reason to doubt it. I didn't vent him so its not 100 percent but its probably a male due to fin structure and head mass. All I can tell you is he is settled nicely in less then a week. In fact he so comfortable he does not mind my hands or anything I put in the tank. When doing water changes its like he does not notice its going on because he is too busy trying to kill loaches.

In retrospect your Cons will be killed in all likely hood eventually.:WHOA:

It is not a Trimac. Do not give misleading info. It is a Flowerhorn which is a hybrid.
