Please Help! Im worried about my Leo

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I saw this on a brown ray I have and it lasted a couple of days and went away. Not sure what it is but I would not be concerned unless it turns red, starts peeling, or starts growing off the body.

its no biggie

it used to happen to my rays when i would do large waterchanges. it goes away and it dosnt happen when the rays get bigger...

Do not add salt for no reason.

I wouldn't ever go softening the water or hardening it unless it were so low that the filters didn't work or above 8.5 ph....just leave it where it is, if not every water change has the potential for stress as you will never get it right.

If you never test your water then you need to change that habit forever....nobody can tell ph, ammonia, nitrite or nitrate just by looking at t
Crystal clear water...even if you only test once per month you should still at least test randomly. Things creep up on you with fish tanks....I bet if many tested their nitrate with an in date kit and not a dip strip they would be shocked at the outcome?

Has it occurred to you that if there is a minor slime loss during a water change and that its hard water from the tap thats causing it. Tap water is never acidic.

Lowering tap waters PH by 1 - 0.5 is one of the solutions for this particular minor problem.

Freshwater Rays live in an environment which has different water properties depending on the season. Black water from the rotting leaves in the jungle or minerals washed from the bank and mountains. There are 'benefits' of mimicking these seasonal changes which I'm still observing.

Thats why I state gradually for safety sake. Anyway the water in their naturally chosen habitat is usually soft, so you cant go wrong with a PH of 6.5. I would not recommend a PH of 8.5 for other reasons that would be off topic.

Thats almost always beneficial. :) Try softening the water very slightly.

if he has very hard water their how do you reccomend maintianing soft water.i am very curious myself?? ro

i get those white spots alot.sometimes after water changes probably result of chlorine.sometimes when ph swings i notice that too.and when i have the tank completely dark than turn the lights on they have pales spots too.could be alot of things stress to?? you will only have to figure out your self.i am sure theirs many others who have seen these due to a result of something differnt than what i have listed too.its for you to determine.
in my experince with these spots never had any problems due to it!!

your leo will be fine dont worry and panic
