You should just accept the peer pressure and pressure your parents with that child manipulation technique we all had as children or young adults and get the 75... You can place the fish in a 40.. But when they grew you would feel bad about the space :) Trust me, I have an oscar that lived in a forty til he was 9"!!! :( Now that i have a one fifty i wish i would have had it befoer he was 5":) Go with the 75:)

Especially with the GT or JD.. I do not know anything about Pikes :) They are nice though

Do you want to be my daddy?

I don't know if having one of both will work or not, BUT you said you don't want just one fish. If you wanting a few fish 3+ then you are going to have to go with smaller cichlids like Angels, Rams, and Acara. There are more. If you go with large cichlids, like the JD, you are going to have to accept a permanent limit of 1-2 fish depending on what you choose.

I have seen a 75 gallon with 2 FH, 2 grammodes, a convict, what looked like a midas, and some african fish in it... So why can't I have three 10" fish with some dithers?

It's not to say that you couldn't technically do it. Technically, you can put as much as you want in a tank, what you need to do is look at the quality of life for the fish. In my experience, quality is much better than quanity. Fish will always come into thier color better, grow better and just be healthier through and through if they are in a properly sized and setup tank.

You could compare it to being stuck on an airplane between 2 fat guys. While technically yes, you are on the plane and heading to your destination...it's wouldnt be at all comfortable for you, and same goes for the fish as well.

I know that having a tank with several nice fish in it is fun to observe and interact with, but it's also great to have one very large interactive fish that you can train and have fun and connect with too.

Whatever you choose to do, just keep in mind that they are living creatures and they do need to be comfortable in their homes too.

Have Fun and Good Luck!

I don't know if the 3 you want will work or not. But. It depends on what you choose.

Nicely put Dekah. I have to totally agree. Quality is better than quantitiy.

Yeah I understand now. I'm thinking about getting one big fish for it as kind of like a "water puppy". But I also heard that they get kind of boring when you only have one fish, and that they stop eating with a passion (like agressively) if theres only one fish, is this true?

I want an aquatic puppy to replace my dog that just died... anybody have any advise for an aquatic puppy in a 75 gallon (or possibly a 40 gallon)? Maybe more than one in the 75 gallon?

Example post:
75 gallon: (what you would put in it to be an aquatic puppy)
40 breeder: (what you would put in it to be an aquatice puppy)
Reason why

Thanks so much
Mike
