  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you and me both! I love predatory cats.. anything agressise. My all time favs are the Tiger shovel nose and Asian red tails.. I love piranhas too! Beyond their agressive nature, I love their grace in the water, almost like a shark! the only thing I don't like is they can never differntiate between food and tanksmates!!!! lol My at the time 13 inch TSH took down a 5 inch Oscar, a 3 inch pleco, 2 other oscars, and attempted another acahara Cat!

Hmmn, decisions decisions...

I'm moving my fish to a 75 gallon. I bought three tiger barbs to ensure my tank and water was safe. I'm going to move two of my angels over tonight, then more tomorrow. I can let you know in a week or so how the angels and tiger barbs do, However I have more angels than barbs lol.

We'll my three tiger barbs are little terrors. At first everything was fin, but now they chase all the angels around nipping there tails. They are going to come out today.

i had to isolate my tiger barbs from the angels in my old 55 gal setup cos of the fin-nipping problem. its not in the same league as my RTC eating all the angels kind of problem when i first started out keeping 'monster' fish, but its still a problem nevertheless. prob not a good idea for them to cohabit?

Ouch! Don't think I'll be buying angels then, although in a larger shoal of 10 the tigers might not be so bad. Am considering a Severum now instead.

You guys are having tiger barb problems because you aren't keeping them in a big enough group... tiger barbs exhibit conspecific aggression only when kept in a proper sized group of at least six. Otherwise, they will live up to their reputation as fin nippers and all around jerks.

To the original poster: First, I am jealous of your torpedo barbs. They are awesome. They are selling for $25 each (wild caught) at my LFS.

So, first and foremost, what kind of loaches do you have? If they are a botia species, you should add at least 3 more for them to be happy. They do best in groups and you will see some funny behavior you won't see in a group of three. Look to add 3-7 more, unless they are clown loaches, and in that case you don't have the space.

For your BN pleco, if you get yours a BF/GF (depending on what gender it is) they will likely spawn for you. The males have more bristles.

It sounds like you are looking for more of a "centerpiece" fish?

Personally, I would just add another 10 tiger barbs, maybe of a color mutation, like green or red... and/or another 5 torpedo barbs. Another option, add some rummy nose tetras.

I like the look of colorful schooling fish over larger fish in a tank of your size... spend more money on the aquascaping--LOTS of live plants and driftwood.

You MAY be able to have angels with a school of tiger barbs of sufficient size, I would recommend adding the barbs and the angels at the same time if you go this route.
