Clone, you need to STICK IT TO THE MAN!! I've jut always wanted to say that. :D Give it to them straight. Though, I do disagree with the views on working at McD's (because some very wealthy store owners had to work there a year before they could own it), it really is just McDonald's, and it's your first job. I made the mistake of NOT speaking up when I was in the exact same situation. My parents told me to cut back, but I refused (45 hours a week). I lamed out the last two years of high school with a 3.7, sleeping through my first couple classes. I had a 4.0 honors before that. Trust me, this could be one decision that could make an unseen impact on your life.

Let them know that you said you could only work 20 hours and by them hiring you, agreed to that limit. Let them walk all over you now and they will be doing it the rest of your job.
Plus, it's McDonalds..........

I don't know about Kansas but I have managed a restaurant here in Michigan and it's against the law to let a Minor work those hours even if there begging for it.

They need a work permit, can't work over so many hours, have to be out of there by 10 pm ect ect....

I'm sure you misunderstood them or are reading the scheldule wrong, perhaps?

BUT anyways don't worry about it.

Just tell them that you think there's a mistake with the scheldule and that you can only work about 20 hours per week. You know like 18 t0 24, thats more realilistic, sometimes they might need you to stay a hour longer here and there, no big whoop.

If they insist on more just tell them your folks won't let you.

no offense.. but i had a job situation like this in college.. i did traffic control for my School's public transportation.. and my coworkers and I were pulling 25-35 hours a week! WITH NO BENEFIT! By law if you work more than 20 hours a week you are included health insurance.. i doubt McDonalds will have that..

I quit after putting up with that bull for almost 1 yr.. cuz at the time.. i was a college student with no job.. Trust me its not worth it if u just want some money on the side.. find a job that u can slack off and get paid.. (I'm serious..) i became a Receptionist at a law firm and I got paid more than my old job.. (old, 2 yrs and 8.80 and hour, law firm 9 bucks an hour) this is all part time mind you.. as a college student you cant work more than 19 hours a week... (If you want to pass your classes)

My suggestion.. either you tell him you cant work that much.... because your still in High School... or you say I quit because of the hours..
I would suggest asking him to keep it under 20 hours..

PS: Your manager is really only doing it cuz your new.. and your young and dont know any better.... He's really either taking advantage of you or he's short on hand... (But really he's bulling you...) Dont get bulled into working...

It sucks that this happens on your first job.. but there are better jobs out there.... even if the economy his ****ty as it is....

Hope it helps... and good luck...

it's a job, but its only McDonalds and school is way more important. If your manager is mad that you only want to work 20hours a week, tell him to go to hell and find a new job. In Michigan minors are legally not allowed to work over 20hours anyways. Whats worth more to you.. A education, or a mcdonals salary?

work at petland or sumtin

It's just Mcdonalds! You can work at Mcdaonlds a THOUSAND different times in your life!!

YOU ONLY HAVE ONE CHANCE TO KEEP A 4.0!!! And I watched my wife land receive HUGE oppurtunities with her3.85 that would never be given to someone with a less than perfect GPA ... Oppurtunites I WOULD kill someone for :D Trust me!! iwas right there at the time trying to get the oppurtunity she didn't want :(

Speak with the manager. Let them know they need to cut down to 20 hours.. if they choose not to.. turn in your notice and let them know you will full fill your 20 hour a week commitment, until the notice is up.. they will likely fire you which is ok!! Or they will let you no call no show after the twenty is up and call it a voluntary termination.

Plus you are sixteen.. look into the labor laws of your state ;) We just had some businesses take some huge hits for Sweat shop employment liek this ;) Legit businesses taking advantage of unknowing youth.
