Oh, and also, don't mess with your pH chemically so much. It is better for a fish to have a stable pH in which it is not normally found in the wild, than to have a "corrected" pH which is prone to swings.

He no longer has the white stuff on his scales, but I'm assuming that's due the entire slime coat being stripped off from the acidity.
