The test kit is not the best but is usually reliable. I have found that it is easy to make mistakes with it though. You may want to compare your test with another just to make sure. You can also take you water to most LFS to have tested.

The good news is even if you add filtration and it does not solve the problem, it won't be a waste because of your growing stock it will be eventually needed.

So if it does turn out that there is no ammonia problem as you claim, I would remove the rocks that you aquired from the creek and see if the water gets clearer.

they also make water clarifier. it encourages (through magic, I think) tiny particles to clump together into larger particles, making them easier to trap in your filter.

i didnt have the cash for the canister i wanted so i bought an Emp 400 to go along with the other 50 gallon HOB filter i have. im taking of the 30 gollon HOB filter to mae room for the Emp. i hear lots of good things about the emperor 400. is it a good filter?

Right now I'm running 2 emperor 400's and 1 emp 280. I've never had a problem with them even on salt water tanks. I swear by them. They keep the water great! Even with two oscars in the tank at around 10 inches each. Cloudy water usually is a sign of what's called new tank syndrome. It's when your biological filtration is building the good bacteria that your tank needs to break down organic waste into nitrate. Leave it alone for a week or two. Your fish should be fine, just let your filters do the work. If you dont have a bio wheel or any think like that, don't change the filter pads either. Just make sure to feed minimally so you don't overload the tank. Only what your fish will eat while you watch them. You can also put the plastic pot scrubbies into your hob filter for bio filtration until you get the emperor with the bio wheel running. Just make sure that they are just plain plastic with no soap or anything on them.

My O's also poop the red from the hikari pellets, but that's fine. I also try to feed silversides, bloodworms, mysis, crayfish, the ocassional feeder, crickets, mealworms, pretty much anything they will eat. :)

for one, why would i lie about the fish i have in there? and two, if your goin to give me advice why would u suggest me not use it and tell me to "continue on as i am".

next time try being helpful without being ignorent.

You are the one being ignorant. Many people on this thread have told you what to do, so why are you asking for advice...you're just going to continue on doing whatever you think and geting the same problems. Might as well leave you to it. Haha 2 foot pacu in a 180. Funny.

Why would you get more filtration if your water params are fine? Myself I would doubt that your ammonia is at an acceptable level. What test kit are you using?

I am not familiar with the aqueon filter, what does it have for cultivating bacteria? What size is the biowheel?

Exactly. He has a lack of understanding that's why.
